SCHOLARSHIPS

Welcome to the Scholarships Page of the St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter!  Since its chartering on January 11, 1998, the chapter has focused on supporting the preparation of young people economically, academically, spiritually, and socially for their transition successfully from high school to college and the adult world. 


This year the St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter will offer five distinct scholarships.  You can read more information about the individual scholarships below and apply today!


 

ELAINE M. DIGGS SCHOLARSHIP


The Elaine M. Diggs scholarship award is a minimum of $1,000 given by the St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to support the scholastic efforts of African-American high school female students planning to attend an accredited college or university with a desire to study education.  Scholarships are awarded for tuition, books, or living expenses. 


Required Qualifications are as follows:

  • Acceptance to 4 year college/university, 2 year community college
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • 500 word typed personal essay (why you should receive scholarship and career goals)
  • Current Official High School Transcript (Fall/Winter 2017)
  • Minimum 40 hours community service within the last 18 months (to be verified on official letter by a supervisor with signature)
  • 1 letter of recommendation from teacher
  • 4x6 professional photo
  • Resident of St. Louis Metropolitan area
  • Mentor or Tutor experience preferred

    TOMORROW'S BUSINESS LEADER SCHOLARSHIP


    The Tomorrow’s Business Leader Scholarship is awarded to an African-American male or female student currently attending an accredited 4 year university with a currently studying a Business-related major including Accounting, Finance, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Management, and Marketing.  A scholarship of a minimum of $1,000 will be awarded for tuition, books, or living expenses.  

      

    Required Qualifications are as follows:

    • Specification – Business-related majors
    • Resident of St. Louis Metropolitan area
    • Registered as a FT student (minimum 12 credit hours) at a college or university
    • Minimum GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale
    • Current Official College Transcript (Fall/Winter 2017)
    • Business Plan (emphasis on financial projections and marketing/communication strategies for Accounting, Marketing majors)
    • Minimum 40 hours community service within the last 18 months (to be verified on official letter by a supervisor with signature)
    • 1 letter of recommendation from professor
    • 4x6 professional photo

    YOUNG LEADERS OF DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP


    The Young Leaders of Distinction Scholarship was created in 2012 by the St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This scholarship award is a minimum of $1,000 to support the scholastic efforts of African American male high school seniors that have demonstrated and held leadership roles in community service or extracurricular activities.

    Required Qualifications are as follows:

    • Specification – Leadership experience (Founder, President, etc.)
    • Resident of St. Louis Metropolitan area
    • Acceptance to 4 year college/university, 2 year community college
    • Minimum GPA 3.0
    • Current Official High School Transcript (Fall/Winter 2017)
    • 500 word typed personal essay  (detailing your leadership experience and tenure)
    • Minimum 40 hours community service within the last 18 months (to be verified on official letter by a supervisor with signature)
    • 1 letter of recommendation from teacher
    • 4x6 professional photo

    D.R.E.A.M. SCHOLARSHIP


    The D.R.E.A.M - Discovering Real Educational Advantages Motivates-Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that will entice students to find real opportunities that allow educational advantages (benefits) which will motivate them to do well. This scholarship provides hope to those African-American male or female students in need. A scholarship of a minimum of $1,000 will be awarded for tuition, books, or living expenses.


    Required Qualifications are as follows:

    • Need-based financial scholarship
    • FAFSA score or contribution detail
    • Resident of St. Louis Metropolitan area
    • Currently attending a 4 year college/university, 2 year community college, trade school, apprenticeship
    • Registered as a FT student (minimum 12 credit hours)
    • Minimum GPA 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale
    • 500 word autobiography to include examples of volunteerism experience
    • Current Official Transcript (Fall/Winter 2017)
    • 2 letters of recommendation from professor (mandatory), service agency or professional
    • 4x6 professional  photo


    CORA CADE-LEMMON SCHOLARSHIP


    The Cora Cade-Lemmon Scholarship represents the Power of our 22 Founders by awarding a minimum of $1,000 in scholarship funds for tuition, books, or living expenses to a current undergraduate and financial member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This scholarship encourages members to continue a pursuit of excellence throughout their scholastic endeavors.


    Required Qualifications are as follows:
    • Financial undergraduate member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (copy of membership ID card)
    • SLMAC sponsor required
    • Currently attending a 4 year college/university, 2 year community college, trade school, apprenticeship
    • Registered as a FT student (minimum 12 credit hours)
    • Minimum GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale
    • 500 word essay discussing how they carry out the 5 point thrust (essay, video, etc)
    • Current Official Transcript (Fall/Winter 2017)
    • Minimum 40 hours community service within the last 18 months on official agency letterhead and signed by supervisor
    • 1 letter of recommendation from professor
    • 4x6 professional photo of the applicant
